Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez is a top transfer target for Real Madrid, according to reports from talkSPORT. The potential move comes as Chelsea undergo a squad rebuild under a new manager following a disappointing 2025/26 campaign, and follows an ‘agreement’ for Trevoh Chalobah to leave for Como.
Chelsea have already invested approximately £100 million in new signings this summer, and have recouped a similar amount through player sales. The club have made centre-back Chalobah available for transfer, with Serie A side Como, managed by former Chelsea player Cesc Fabregas, reportedly close to securing his signature for around £30 million. An ‘agreement has been reached’ with a ‘final meeting scheduled’ according to Italian reporter Gianluca Di Marzio.
Fernandez, who was a standout performer for Chelsea last season, is also attracting significant interest. While linked with several clubs, Real Madrid are reportedly confident of securing his services. Jose Mourinho’s side are prepared to offer €120 million (£105m) to meet Chelsea’s valuation of the Argentinian international.
Former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise believes Fernandez would find a move to Real Madrid difficult to resist, stating that players from South America often find it hard to turn down an opportunity with a club of that stature. Riise also pointed to previous issues Fernandez had at Chelsea under past management, suggesting that blocking a move to Madrid could create further problems within the club. He noted the impact of a new manager at Chelsea, but reiterated the pull of a club like Real Madrid.
Should Fernandez depart, it would represent a significant shift in Chelsea’s midfield. His departure, alongside Chalobah’s likely exit, signals a clear intention to reshape the squad. The potential arrival of funds from these sales would allow the club to further invest in new talent as they aim to improve their performance in the upcoming season.
