Fiorentina's Parisi emerges as right-back option amid Dodo injury doubts
Fiorentina manager Paolo Vanoli is considering deploying Fabiano Parisi as an emergency right-back for this weekend's Serie A fixture against Hellas Verona. The potential shift comes with first-choice right-back Dodo and his deputy, Lorenzo Fortini, both facing fitness tests and considered doubts for the match at the Bentegodi.
According to reports in Italy, Parisi has become a trusted and versatile figure for Vanoli since the coach's arrival. The 23-year-old, who was signed from Empoli for €10 million in 2022 and is under contract until 2029, has started 17 of Fiorentina's last 19 league games, missing only one through injury and another through suspension. His reliability and work ethic have been frequently praised by the manager.
Parisi is naturally a left-back but has been successfully converted into a right-winger by Vanoli this season, utilizing his dribbling ability in advanced areas. His tactical flexibility means a return to a defensive role is a viable short-term solution. The adaptation began earlier this campaign when Vanoli asked him to fill in during another emergency, demonstrating his team-first attitude.
With Dodo and Fortini working separately in training, Vanoli's alternative would be to use right-sided centre-back Luca Ranieri or fellow defender Christiano Comuzzo in the role. However, Parisi's form and familiarity with both defensive and offensive duties make him a leading candidate. His likely inclusion, regardless of position, underscores his current importance to the squad.
The situation highlights Fiorentina's adaptability under Vanoli and Parisi's value as a squad player. A consistent run of games has revitalized the Italian's season after he found minutes limited under previous coach Stefano Pioli, and he now appears undroppable for the Viola.
