Nottingham Forest continue to express strong interest in Celtic midfielder Arne Engels, though they now face competition from a host of other European clubs, according to TEAMtalk. The 22-year-old Belgian has become a key figure for Celtic since joining from Augsburg in 2024, consistently impressing with his dynamic performances in midfield.
Engels has established himself as a standout performer for the Scottish champions, contributing four goals and two assists in 25 league appearances this season. His performances have been instrumental in Celtic’s title challenge, with the club currently holding a narrow lead with two matches remaining. He recently delivered an outstanding performance in Celtic’s victory over rivals Rangers, further elevating his profile.
Forest previously made multiple bids for Engels in January, reportedly reaching around £25million, but Celtic rejected their offers. The club are now preparing to return with a renewed offer at the end of the season, potentially regardless of the future of manager Vitor Pereira, who faces uncertainty regarding his position. However, they are not alone in their pursuit.
Borussia Dortmund, managed by Niko Kovac, are also seriously considering a move for Engels as they look to bolster their midfield ahead of a Champions League campaign. RB Leipzig have also been monitoring the player, having previously shown interest in January. Serie A side Lazio are also reportedly considering a bid, with their coaching staff highly impressed by Engels’ abilities.
Interest extends to Spain, with Atletico Madrid now also on the scene. The Spanish club are seeking midfield reinforcements and view Engels as a strong candidate, appreciating his ability to dictate tempo, contribute defensively, and join attacks. His profile aligns well with Atletico’s tactical approach.
Celtic fans will be hoping to retain their key midfielder, but a substantial offer is likely to be difficult to refuse. Engels’ maturity and physical attributes suggest he is ready to take the next step in his career, and a move to a leading European club appears increasingly probable.
