Eintracht Frankfurt have submitted an initial offer for Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika, according to Fabrizio Romano. The 25-year-old Nigerian international has been a long-term target for the Bundesliga side, with previous attempts to secure his signature failing in the past two transfer windows. Frankfurt are actively seeking to strengthen their midfield ahead of the upcoming season, with Onyedika identified as a key target alongside Bayer Leverkusen’s Robert Andrich.
Onyedika joined Club Brugge in August 2022 from FC Midtjylland, quickly establishing himself as a regular in the Belgian side’s midfield. He has made 36 appearances for Brugge across all competitions, contributing defensively with a high number of tackles and interceptions. Last season, he featured prominently in Club Brugge’s Champions League campaign, gaining valuable experience at the highest level of European football.
Previous discussions regarding a transfer to Frankfurt last summer involved a potential loan with an obligation to buy for a fee of up to €30 million, but the complexity of the deal ultimately prevented it from materialising. While Onyedika is now in the final year of his contract with Club Brugge, the Belgian club are still expected to demand a significant fee for the player. This is due to his importance to their squad and the potential for a bidding war with other interested clubs.
Competition for Onyedika’s signature is reportedly strong, with both Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund also monitoring the situation. The interest from these Bundesliga giants could potentially drive up the transfer fee and complicate negotiations for Frankfurt. Frankfurt’s pursuit of Onyedika signals their ambition to compete at the top end of the Bundesliga table, and adding a dynamic defensive midfielder like Onyedika would undoubtedly strengthen their squad. The acquisition would provide manager Dino Toppmöller with further options in the middle of the park and increase competition for places.
