Eintracht Frankfurt have renewed their interest in West Ham United midfielder Soungoutou Magassa, according to reports in Germany. Bild newspaper claim the Bundesliga club have added the 22-year-old to their summer transfer shortlist, potentially offering him an escape route after a challenging first season in London.
Frankfurt previously pursued Magassa last summer before he ultimately chose to join West Ham for a reported fee of €17 million. The move to the Premier League has not unfolded as anticipated for the French midfielder, with limited consistent starting opportunities under David Moyes. He has made 26 appearances for the Hammers in all competitions, including 14 starts, but has struggled to establish himself as a key figure in the squad.
This potential return to Germany is further fueled by the appointment of Adi Hütter as Eintracht Frankfurt’s new head coach. Hütter previously managed Magassa during their time together at AS Monaco, where the player developed through the club’s academy and made his professional debut. The familiarity between the two could be a significant factor in persuading Magassa to consider a move to Deutsche Bank Park.
Magassa primarily operates as a central midfielder, known for his energetic pressing and ability to contribute both defensively and in attack. However, competition for places at West Ham remains fierce, particularly with the emergence of other midfield options. A move back to the Bundesliga could offer Magassa the consistent playing time he needs to further develop his game and recapture the form he showed at Monaco.
While a fee has not yet been reported, West Ham may be willing to cut their losses on a player who has not yet fully justified his price tag. Frankfurt, meanwhile, are rebuilding their squad under Hütter and seeking to add youthful energy and dynamism to their midfield. The transfer could provide Magassa with a platform to thrive and become a key player for a club with ambitions of challenging for European qualification.
