Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini has stated the club is prioritizing careful development of the squad during the transfer window, rather than seeking headline signings before the start of the World Cup. Speaking to Sky Sport at a tennis and padel tournament in Bergamo, Gasperini emphasized the importance of a serious and attentive approach to team building. He highlighted the passionate support at the Stadio Olimpico and the responsibility to build a stronger team for the fans.
Gasperini acknowledged a current standstill in transfer activity across Serie A, suggesting that concrete squad construction will likely occur later in the window. He expressed the club’s ambition to improve the overall quality of the team, building on last season’s Champions League qualification. Roma finished sixth in Serie A last season, securing a place in the Europa League playoffs.
The manager stressed the value of the core group of players who achieved Champions League qualification, praising their dedication and commitment. Gasperini indicated his desire to retain the existing squad, while acknowledging the financial realities and need for balanced accounts. He confirmed the club is working “under the radar” to resolve the situation surrounding Paulo Dybala, stating there is a mutual desire to find a solution.
Regarding speculation linking defender Gianluca Mancini with a move to Inter, Gasperini was firm in his stance. He stated that while Inter are free to pursue their targets, Mancini will not be leaving Roma, having already communicated this directly to the player. Mancini has been a key figure in Roma’s defense since joining from Fiorentina in 2019, making over 100 appearances for the club. His commitment to the team is seen as vital for Gasperini’s plans.
The manager’s comments suggest a pragmatic approach to the transfer window, prioritizing squad cohesion and financial stability over extravagant purchases. Maintaining the core of last season’s team and resolving the situation with key players like Dybala will be crucial for Roma as they aim to build on their recent success.
