Lille manager Bruno Genesio may be set for a move to Olympique de Marseille, according to reports emerging from France. The speculation stems from an unusual event on Tuesday, with Lille president Olivier Létang reportedly hiring a moving company, ‘Monte Meuble Hauts-de-France’, to assess a potential relocation.
The moving company confirmed to sources that the service requested was for a full house move, strongly suggesting Genesio is preparing to leave the club at the end of the season. This follows recent comments from Genesio himself, indicating a willingness to discuss a contract extension with Létang, but no firm agreement has been reached.
RMC Sport reported several days ago that Genesio was considering leaving Lille, with multiple clubs expressing interest in securing his services. Olympique de Marseille have been prominently mentioned as a potential destination, with the club seeking an experienced manager to turn around their disappointing season. Marseille are reportedly viewing Genesio, formerly of Rennes, as a suitable candidate to stabilize the team.
Genesio has overseen a solid, if not spectacular, campaign with Lille, guiding them to a mid-table finish in Ligue 1. He previously managed Rennes from 2019 to 2021, achieving consistent European qualification before taking the reins at Lille. His tactical approach typically favors a possession-based style with a focus on defensive solidity.
Should Genesio move to Marseille, it would represent a significant appointment for the club, who have struggled for consistency this season. The move would also signal a potential shift in direction for Lille, who would need to find a replacement capable of maintaining their competitive edge in Ligue 1. The appointment of a new manager at Marseille could be a key step in their efforts to return to the top of French football.
