Genoa manager Daniele De Rossi has confirmed he is already working with sporting director Diego Lopez on plans for next season, following the club's successful Serie A survival. In an interview with local media, De Rossi stated his vision is clear and that he is committed to building a strong squad for the future, indicating a proactive start to the summer transfer window.
The club's incoming market strategy will be closely tied to its ongoing financial restructuring, according to sources close to the club. While the objective is to continue reducing debt, the management has signaled a willingness to invest where value is identified, as demonstrated by the January signings of Vitinha and the redemption of Leo Ostigard. The first orders of business are expected to be several contract renewals for existing players.
Key decisions loom over the futures of goalkeeper Etienne Bijlow, who is reportedly ready to sign a three-year extension, and veteran forward Ruslan Malinovskyi. The club faces a more difficult negotiation with Malinovskyi, as the 32-year-old's age and the expiration of favorable tax benefits complicate a potential new deal. Extensions for Caleb Ekuban and Junior Messias are also under study, with proposals likely to feature lower base salaries supplemented by appearance and goal-related bonuses.
Among the more intriguing potential moves is the situation surrounding defender Alan Matturro. The Uruguayan, currently on loan at Levante from Genoa, has impressed significantly in La Liga, including in matches against Real Madrid and Barcelona. While Levante holds a purchase option set at 12 million euros, they are not expected to exercise it, opening the door for Genoa to evaluate all possibilities, including reintegrating the 19-year-old into De Rossi's squad for the upcoming campaign.
Genoa also holds significant options on several other loanees. The club has an obligation to buy striker Lorenzo Colombo from Milan for a reported 7.5 million euros and a purchase option on midfielder Tommaso Baldanzi from Roma, set at 10 million euros. The future of captain Morten Frendrup and other key performers like Ostigard, Alessandro Marcandalli, and Emil Holm will be subject to potential external interest, with the club's stance dependent on the scale of any incoming offers. De Rossi's clear vision for the project is considered a central pillar of Genoa's strategy as they aim to balance fiscal responsibility with sporting ambition.
