Santiago Gimenez is expected to be sold during the current transfer window, according to reports in Italian media. The Mexican forward has struggled to make an impact since joining Milan in January 2025 for a reported €30 million, and his future at San Siro appears uncertain.
Gimenez spoke recently to Billboard Italia, expressing his affection for the club and its supporters, stating he has supported Milan since childhood. He acknowledged his own struggles to perform to the level he desires, but appreciated the continued support from the fans, describing them as a ‘family.’ He fondly recalled scoring his first goal at the stadium against his former club, Feyenoord, in the Champions League.
Despite the positive sentiment, Gimenez’s goalscoring record for Milan has been poor. He has failed to score in Serie A, managing only one goal in Coppa Italia against Lecce. His last league goal came in May 2025 against Bologna, leaving a gap of over a year without finding the net. This lack of goals, coupled with a recent ankle injury, has contributed to the club’s willingness to consider offers.
Lazio, managed by Igor Tudor, have emerged as strong contenders to sign Gimenez. While a specific fee has not been disclosed, Milan will likely seek to recoup a significant portion of their initial investment. The potential sale represents a setback for the club, as they hoped Gimenez would bolster their attacking options. The forward was previously linked with a move to Roma before ultimately joining Milan. His departure could free up funds for the club to pursue alternative attacking targets under their new manager.
