Leon Goretzka is set to leave Bayern Munich at the end of his contract and join AC Milan on a free transfer, according to AZ. The German midfielder has agreed to a three-year deal with the Serie A club, reportedly worth €5 million per season.
Goretzka’s departure marks the end of an eight-year spell with Bayern, where he became a key figure in midfield. He arrived at the Allianz Arena in 2018 from Schalke 04 and has won seven Bundesliga titles, two DFB-Pokal trophies, and the Champions League in 2020 during his time in Bavaria. This season, Goretzka has made 28 appearances across all competitions, contributing with six goals and eight assists.
Bayern Munich are planning farewells for the departing midfielder, with a party scheduled for Wednesday. He will also be recognized before Saturday’s Bundesliga match against 1. FC Köln at the Allianz Arena, and could feature in his final game for the club in the DFB-Pokal final against VfB Stuttgart on May 23 in Berlin.
Recently, Goretzka was substituted at half-time during Bayern’s 1-0 victory over Wolfsburg after sustaining a head injury. Sporting director Christoph Freund explained that the player felt dizzy after being struck by a free-kick, prompting the precautionary substitution. Manager Vincent Kompany confirmed the injury was not serious, but the club opted to prioritize Goretzka’s well-being.
The move to AC Milan represents a new chapter for Goretzka, offering him a prominent role in a team looking to re-establish itself as a force in Italian and European football. AC Milan will hope Goretzka’s experience and dynamism will bolster their midfield ahead of a challenging Serie A campaign. This transfer signifies a significant addition for Milan as they prepare for the next season, aiming to compete at the highest level.
