Lewis Hall is seeking a transfer from Newcastle United to Manchester United this summer, according to reports. The 21-year-old left-back ‘would be open to joining’ United despite family connections to Newcastle, as stated by The Sun’s Samuel Luckhurst.
Hall’s desire stems from a preference to play Champions League football, following Newcastle’s 12th-place finish in the Premier League. He was also reportedly ‘unhappy’ with his usage by Eddie Howe towards the end of the season, believing it impacted his chances of inclusion in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the World Cup. Manchester United identified Hall as one of the best young English talents available, confirming their interest on June 15.
However, United will face competition from Chelsea, who are reportedly preparing a £60 million bid for the player. Luke Shaw currently occupies the left-back position for United, and while a reliable performer, his fitness and the demands of Champions League football have prompted the club to explore potential successors.
Beyond Hall, Manchester United are prioritizing midfield reinforcements, having already agreed a £35 million deal for Atalanta’s Ederson. They are also competing with Tottenham Hotspur for West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes, valued at between £80-85 million. The club intends to pursue a third midfielder if they can offload Manuel Ugarte, with Bournemouth’s Alex Scott and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba identified as potential targets, costing £60 million and £80 million respectively.
Meanwhile, Barcelona continue to monitor Marcus Rashford, though they are prepared to wait until later in the transfer window, anticipating a potential shift in United’s negotiating position. Barca believe Rashford is keen on a return to the club and will leverage this in future negotiations, having previously passed on the opportunity to sign him permanently for £26 million.
