Hansi Flick has extended his contract as manager of FC Barcelona until 2028, with an additional year as an option, the club confirmed on Monday. The extension comes after a successful period for Flick, culminating in a second La Liga title in two years for Barcelona.
Flick initially took charge of the Catalan giants with a clear vision for the future, and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to continue leading the club. He stated he was “very grateful to the club to be able to continue training it until 2028.” A key objective for the German manager will be to secure a Champions League title, a competition he previously won with Bayern Munich.
Despite the contract extension, Barcelona will be without Robert Lewandowski next season, with the 37-year-old striker announcing his departure at the end of the current campaign. Flick has been building a squad intended to compete at the highest level for years to come, and will now need to integrate a replacement for the Polish international.
Flick had previously stated in March that Barcelona would be the final club of his managerial career, but appears to have reconsidered his position. While the extension solidifies his commitment to the club, speculation suggests a potential future role with Inter Miami could still be on the cards later in his career. The club’s recent domestic success and Flick’s leadership are seen as crucial components of their ongoing project.
