Hansi Flick has been named La Liga’s Manager of the Season for the second consecutive year, the league announced. The 61-year-old German coach secured the award following FC Barcelona’s dominant title win, finishing eight points ahead of rivals Real Madrid with 94 points to Madrid’s 86.
Flick’s achievement places him in an exclusive group of managers to have won the award in back-to-back seasons. Prior to Flick, Pep Guardiola achieved the feat with Barcelona in 2008-2009 and 2009-2010, while José Mourinho accomplished the same with Real Madrid in 2010-2011 and 2011-2012. The recognition firmly establishes Flick amongst some of the most successful managers in recent La Liga history.
Flick arrived at Barcelona last summer, tasked with continuing the club’s rebuilding process following Xavi’s departure. He quickly implemented a high-pressing, possession-based style of play that proved highly effective, leading to a significant improvement in results and ultimately, the league title. His tactical flexibility and ability to motivate his players were consistently praised throughout the season.
Barcelona’s triumph under Flick marked a return to dominance after a period of transition. The club had been undergoing financial restructuring and rebuilding its squad, and Flick’s leadership was instrumental in navigating these challenges. The title win is expected to provide a strong foundation for future success, both domestically and in European competitions. The club is now actively pursuing transfer targets to further strengthen the squad for the upcoming season, with Flick heavily involved in the recruitment process.
