Lindsey Heaps has played her final match for Olympique Lyonnais Féminin, bringing an end to a four-and-a-half year spell with the club. The American international was honored after Lyon’s dominant victory over Paris FC in the Première Ligue final on May 29th, 2026, marking her 127th appearance for the Rhone club. Following a guard of honor from her teammates, Heaps addressed the Groupama Stadium crowd, expressing her gratitude in a mix of French and English.
Heaps began her European career with Paris Saint-Germain before joining Lyon in January 2022. During her time with Lyon, she became a key figure in the team, contributing to their continued domestic success. The club secured their 19th French championship title in the final match of her tenure, with Heaps given the honor of lifting the trophy first, as chosen by captain Wendie Renard.
According to reports, Heaps is returning to the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) to join Denver Summit FC. She previously played in the NWSL with Portland Thorns FC between 2016 and 2022, establishing herself as a consistent performer in the league. This move represents a return to familiar surroundings for the midfielder, offering a new challenge in a growing league.
The transfer comes as Heaps concludes a successful chapter in France. While financial details of the move have not been disclosed, the decision allows Denver Summit FC to add an experienced and versatile player to their squad. It is speculated by some sources that Heaps may consider a return to European football in the future, potentially as early as 2032, but her immediate focus is on her next chapter with Denver.
