- FC Heidenheim have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Thomas Dähne on a free transfer, with the player joining until June 30, 2028. The club announced the agreement on Wednesday, bringing in the 32-year-old following the expiration of his contract with TSV 1860 Munich.
Dähne brings a significant amount of professional experience to the newly promoted Bundesliga side, having accumulated 9 Bundesliga appearances, alongside 51 in the 2. Bundesliga and 35 in the 3. Liga. He has also spent time playing abroad, further broadening his experience. His arrival is intended to provide both competition and mentorship within Heidenheim’s goalkeeping ranks.
Heidenheim chairman Holger Sanwald highlighted Dähne’s qualities, stating that he will “perfectly complement our goalkeeping department.” Sanwald praised the player’s years of experience in German and international football, and his consistent performance at a professional level. He also credited goalkeeping coach Bernd Weng for his efforts in securing the transfer, expressing satisfaction at the speed with which the deal was completed. Sanwald believes Dähne’s positive personality will benefit both the young goalkeepers and the entire team.
Dähne himself expressed his enthusiasm about joining Heidenheim, noting that initial discussions with the club left him with a very positive impression. He also mentioned the influence of goalkeeping coach Vitus Eicher, whom he previously worked with at 1860 Munich, reinforcing his belief that Heidenheim is a “very special club.” Dähne stated his desire to contribute to the team’s success both on and off the field.
The move provides Heidenheim with a seasoned professional as they prepare for their first season in the Bundesliga. Dähne’s experience is expected to be invaluable as the club navigates the challenges of top-flight football, providing stability and competition in a crucial position.
