TSG Hoffenheim are pursuing Feyenoord winger Leo Sauer as a replacement for Bazoumana Touré, who recently completed a €50million move to Newcastle United, according to Kicker.de.
The Bundesliga club are seeking to fill the void left by Touré’s departure, and have identified the Slovakian international as a key target. Sauer, 23, primarily plays on the right wing, offering a different profile to the left-footed Touré, who established himself as a dynamic presence in Hoffenheim’s attack.
Feyenoord are reportedly demanding a fee of €7million for Sauer, who is under contract with the Dutch club until 2028. The Eredivisie side will likely be reluctant to sell a player who contributed to their league title win last season, but Hoffenheim’s offer may prove tempting. Sauer made 26 appearances in the Dutch topflight last term, registering 4 goals and 2 assists.
Sauer joined Feyenoord in January 2023 from DAC Dunajská Streda, quickly becoming a regular in their starting lineup. He has earned 12 caps for Slovakia, demonstrating his international quality. Prior to his move to Feyenoord, Sauer spent his entire career in his native Slovakia, progressing through the youth ranks at DAC Dunajská Streda before making his senior debut in 2019.
While Sauer is considered a leading candidate, Kicker.de reports that Hoffenheim are also evaluating other options to replace Touré. The club are clearly prioritizing a wide player with pace and attacking intent, mirroring the qualities of the departed Ivorian. Securing Sauer would provide coach Pellegrino Matarazzo with another attacking option as Hoffenheim look to build on their mid-table finish last season.
