Arijon Ibrahimovic is returning to FC Bayern Munich following the conclusion of his season-long loan at 1.FC Heidenheim, who were recently relegated from the Bundesliga. The 20-year-old winger will rejoin the Bavarian squad ahead of the 2024-25 season, but his long-term future at the Allianz Arena remains unclear.
According to Sky Germany, Bayern Munich are pleased with Ibrahimovic’s progress during his time at Heidenheim and have offered the player an initial contract extension. Ibrahimovic’s current deal with Bayern is set to expire in 2027, and the club are now presenting him with the option to commit to a longer stay. However, the report indicates that no further loan spell is currently being considered for the young attacker.
Ibrahimovic enjoyed a productive campaign with Heidenheim, contributing two goals and five assists despite the club’s ultimately unsuccessful fight against relegation. His performances have attracted interest from clubs across Europe, with inquiries reportedly arriving from teams in the Bundesliga, the Premier League, and the Eredivisie. The Nürnberg native took a significant step forward in his development during his time away from Munich, gaining valuable first-team experience.
Bayern’s plans for Ibrahimovic appear to hinge on his willingness to accept the contract extension offer. Should he decline, the club are prepared to consider selling the player this summer. Vincent Kompany, Bayern’s new head coach, is reportedly a fan of Ibrahimovic’s abilities and could see him as a potential replacement for players like Raphaël Guerreiro, who can operate in similar attacking roles. The decision now rests with Ibrahimovic, who must weigh the prospect of remaining a squad player at Bayern against the opportunity to secure regular first-team football elsewhere.
His return to Bayern provides Kompany with another attacking option as he begins to reshape the squad, and a decision on his future will be a key early task for the new management team.
