FC Bayern Munich concluded their Bundesliga campaign with a dominant 5-1 victory over 1. FC Köln, surpassing 120 goals scored for the season. The match, played on May 16, 2026, featured a hat-trick from Harry Kane and an emotional farewell for Leon Goretzka.
Kane opened the scoring with two quick goals in the 10th and 13th minutes, establishing Bayern’s control early on. Said El Mala briefly responded for Köln in the 18th minute, but Tom Bischof swiftly restored Bayern’s two-goal advantage just four minutes later. The first half saw Bayern demonstrating their attacking prowess, pushing for further goals but also experiencing some misfortune with Karl hitting the post.
After the break, Kane completed his hat-trick in the 69th minute, bringing his season tally to 36 goals and securing his third consecutive Bundesliga top scorer award. While he fell short of Robert Lewandowski’s single-season record of 41 goals, Kane’s performance contributed to Bayern’s historic achievement of exceeding 120 goals in a single Bundesliga season. Nicolas Jackson added a fifth goal for Bayern in the 83rd minute, finalizing the scoreline.
Köln finished the season with their largest defeat, however, their Bundesliga status was already secured prior to the match, having avoided relegation for the entire campaign. The victory allowed Bayern to lift the Bundesliga shield for their 35th league title, and they will have the opportunity to complete a domestic double in the DFB-Pokal final against Stuttgart the following week.
The match also marked the farewells of both Leon Goretzka and referee Deniz Aytekin. Goretzka, a former Bochum player, was honored with a rendition of Herbert Grönemeyer’s iconic song before the game and was the first to lift the championship trophy. Bayern coach Vincent Kompany emphasized the importance of maintaining focus ahead of the Pokal final, resting Michael Olise amongst the starting eleven. Goretzka’s departure marks the end of an era for the midfielder at the Bavarian club, while Aytekin concludes a long and respected career as a Bundesliga referee.
