Alec Georgen is set to leave Dunkerque after two seasons with the Ligue 2 club, with Darmstadt offering the right-back a four-year contract, according to L’Équipe.
The 27-year-old’s season concluded on Monday with recognition from his peers, being named in the Ligue 2 Team of the Season. Georgen’s contract with Dunkerque has now expired, bringing an end to his time with the club where he made a career-high 74 appearances. He joined Dunkerque in 2022 and quickly established himself as a key player for the side.
Darmstadt, who finished fifth in Bundesliga 2 last season, have made a formal offer to the player, who began his career at Paris Saint-Germain. While the German club has taken the lead in negotiations, they are not alone in their interest. L’Équipe reports that a currently unnamed Ligue 1 club is also considering a move for Georgen.
Georgen primarily plays as a right-back, offering both defensive solidity and attacking impetus. His performances for Dunkerque have drawn attention from clubs in both France and Germany, highlighting his growing reputation as a reliable and consistent performer. The player’s availability on a free transfer makes him an attractive option for clubs looking to strengthen their squad without a significant transfer fee.
Should Georgen opt for Darmstadt, he would be joining a club aiming to push for promotion to the Bundesliga. A move to the unnamed Ligue 1 side would see him return to his home country and compete at the highest level of French football. The decision will likely hinge on the sporting project offered and the financial terms available to the player.
