Tottenham Hotspur are poised to continue a significant summer overhaul with a move for Manchester City winger Savinho, following progress on a deal for Sandro Tonali, according to former player Jermaine Jenas. Jenas revealed the information while speaking to TEAMtalk on behalf of 10bet, suggesting Savinho would be a key addition as Roberto De Zerbi aims to secure Champions League qualification for the club.
The anticipated package for Tonali is valued at £100 million, and Tottenham are prepared to add to that investment with a £60 million bid for the Brazilian winger. Jenas highlighted Tottenham’s need for stability in attacking positions, noting the injury struggles of Dominic Solanke and Mohammed Kudus last season hindered their progress. He believes Savinho’s prior Premier League experience would make him a valuable asset, providing creativity out wide.
De Zerbi’s arrival at Tottenham has prompted expectations of a rapid ascent up the Premier League table, with the club aiming to challenge for European places after a difficult recent period. Jenas believes a top-five finish and Champions League qualification should be the minimum target for the Italian manager, especially given the level of investment being sanctioned. He emphasized that the players being targeted are not seeking a mid-table existence.
Beyond Savinho, Tottenham are also exploring other options, with reports indicating talks have begun with a young talent from Cologne. However, that deal is complicated by the player’s family requesting that his older brother also be included in any transfer. The club has already secured agreements for free transfers of Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson, signalling an intent to rebuild the squad quickly. Securing Champions League football is now seen as vital to justify the scale of the spending, according to Jenas.
