Torino have exercised their option to extend the contract of midfielder Emirhan Ilkhan until June 2027, the club confirmed. The extension is a reward for the 20-year-old’s consistent performances this past season, demonstrating the qualities first glimpsed when he arrived at the club.
Ilkhan joined Torino in the summer of 2022 from Besiktas for a fee of €4.5 million, signing a four-year deal with an option for a further year. He initially made a strong impression, starting in Serie A against Lecce in only his fifth appearance, but his opportunities became limited. A loan spell at Sampdoria followed in January 2023, where he made eight appearances, before another loan to Başakşehir the following season. It was at Başakşehir where Ilkhan found consistent playing time, featuring in 34 matches across all competitions.
Returning to Torino, Ilkhan suffered a significant setback in September 2024, sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury during a friendly match. The injury required surgery and sidelined him for the majority of the season, with a return to training not coming until late March. Despite this, Ilkhan quickly re-established himself upon his return to fitness. He made a notable impact in the Coppa Italia against Modena in August, creating the assist for Vlasic’s goal. He was subsequently promoted to the starting lineup against Inter, where he was a standout performer despite the team’s defeat.
Ilkhan’s form continued to grow throughout the 2025-26 season, earning him increased playing time. He delivered several impactful performances, including a strong showing in the 3-0 win against Verona, a draw against Fiorentina, and scoring the decisive goal in the Coppa Italia victory over Roma. His performances have also earned him a recent call-up to the Turkey Under-21 national team. The successful season represents a full recovery and a significant step forward for the young midfielder, solidifying his place within the Torino squad. This contract renewal indicates Torino’s faith in Ilkhan’s potential and his future contribution to the team.
