Inter will begin their pre-season training camp with defenders Benjamin Pavard and midfielder Davide Frattesi effectively designated as surplus to requirements, according to reports in Italy. Both players will join Cristian Chivu’s training group during the camp in Donaueschingen, Germany, from July 16th to 25th, while their agents seek potential moves.
Neither Pavard nor Frattesi are expected to remain with the Inter squad long-term. Pavard, 28, failed to secure a permanent move to Marseille following a loan spell, and his €5 million net salary presents a significant obstacle. The Frenchman’s time at Inter has not met expectations since his arrival from Bayern Munich. He is reportedly hoping for a move to Turkish side Besiktas, but his wage demands remain a sticking point, compounded by his contract with Inter running until 2028.
Frattesi, 26, also endured a difficult season, making 33 appearances across all competitions but starting only three Serie A matches. He accumulated a total of 1113 minutes played. The Italy international has been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Nottingham Forest previously expressing interest and reportedly offering around €25 million. Inter are holding out for at least €30 million for the midfielder. Negotiations with Forest are ongoing.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding their futures, both Pavard and Frattesi will participate in training with Chivu’s group in Germany, effectively training separately from the main squad. Inter’s first pre-season friendly is scheduled for July 26th against Karlsruher, and both players will hope to have secured transfers before then. A swift resolution would benefit both the players and the club as Inter look to reshape their squad for the upcoming season.
