Inter are expected to pursue a fast-paced defender in the upcoming transfer window, according to comments made by Italian football analyst Beppe Bergomi. Bergomi highlighted a need for players capable of taking on opponents one-on-one, particularly in preparation for Champions League competition, suggesting the current squad structure limits their potential in Europe.
Speaking to Italian media, Bergomi praised the work of Inter’s coach, who navigated a season hampered by injuries while maintaining clear communication with the squad. He also singled out Federico Dimarco for his outstanding performance, noting his 18 assists and 7 goals as crucial to Inter’s success. Lautaro Martinez was also lauded for his leadership and overall contribution to the team spirit.
However, Bergomi believes Inter needs to add different attacking options and a quicker defender to elevate their game on the European stage. He suggests the team’s current 3-5-2 formation is difficult to deviate from, given the strengths of players like Dimarco and Hakan Calhanoglu, but a trequartista or a forward with different qualities is needed.
Fabian Parisi, currently at Empoli, has emerged as a potential target. Bergomi acknowledged Inter president Beppe Marotta’s preference for Italian players, making Parisi a logical option. He cautioned, however, that any deal will depend on financial considerations. Inter are expected to see some departures due to player age, creating space within the squad for new additions. The club is aiming to build on a successful season that saw them lift two trophies, but Bergomi’s assessment indicates further investment is required to consistently compete at the highest level in Europe.
