Manager Cristian Chivu is reportedly pushing for progress, particularly as only one major departure – goalkeeper Yann Sommer, replaced by Provedel – has been adequately addressed thus far.
The Nerazzurri are seeking replacements for departed players Denzel Dumfries, Stefan de Vrij, and Francesco Acerbi, all of whom left following the expiration of their contracts. Initial targets for these positions have encountered difficulties, complicating Inter’s rebuilding efforts. Attempts to sign Wilfried Singo have fallen through, while Jean-Kevin Augustin’s transfer was blocked due to issues obtaining the necessary paperwork to play in Italy.
Efforts to secure Fabricio Paletta and Seifeddine Aloui have also proved unsuccessful. The pursuit of Jonathan Jones has stalled, with the player publicly rejecting a move from Nottingham Forest, despite manager Nuno Espírito Santo expressing a desire to retain him; Liverpool are unlikely to accept less than €40 million including add-ons for Jones. A previously promising deal for Singo collapsed following the intervention of Chelsea and allegations of misconduct by the player’s agent.
Inter are now reassessing their options and budget allocation. The club is considering alternatives such as Spence, but concerns remain about his suitability compared to Singo. A potential move for Givairo Read of Feyenoord is also being evaluated, although it is expected to be more expensive than the failed attempt to sign Khalaili. The need for two central defenders is a priority, and the club is working to identify realistic targets within their financial constraints.
Benjamin Pavard has been reintegrated into the squad and has joined the team in pre-season training. His return presents a dilemma for Chivu, who must assess whether the French defender can still contribute effectively to the team, considering past tensions with the squad. If Chivu decides to retain Pavard, it would reduce the need to sign two central defenders, freeing up funds for other areas of the team. Inter currently have Stankovic and Massolin as options in midfield, but Chivu fears the squad may be weaker than last season.
