Inter Milan have informed Liverpool that they will not increase their offer for midfielder Curtis Jones and are prepared to end negotiations if the Premier League club does not lower its asking price, according to TEAMtalk. The Serie A champions are keen to sign the 25-year-old England international this summer, and Jones is reportedly prioritizing a move to the San Siro.
Inter initially made approaches in January and have returned with offers of around £18million and then £21million, both of which Liverpool have rejected. The Merseyside club currently values Jones at £34million, a figure Inter considers unrealistic given the player has entered the final year of his contract with limited progress on a potential renewal. Sources suggest Liverpool had anticipated Jones’ departure if a suitable bid was received.
Club officials at Inter have indicated they are unwilling to meet Liverpool’s valuation, preferring to remain patient rather than overpay for a player whose contract is expiring. Despite the significant difference in valuation, discussions are ongoing, with representatives from both clubs and intermediaries maintaining regular contact in an attempt to reach an agreement. Inter are reportedly being encouraged by intermediaries to increase their offer beyond £25million, suggesting Liverpool’s stance could become more flexible as the transfer window progresses.
While several Premier League clubs are monitoring the situation, Jones’ preference remains a move to Italy. He believes a transfer to Inter represents the ideal next step in his career after developing through Liverpool’s academy. Liverpool are not actively pushing for a sale, believing Jones could still contribute under manager Andoni Iraola if a deal is not reached. This position has given them leverage in negotiations, despite the expiring contract. The impasse currently centres on Inter’s reluctance to meet Liverpool’s £34million asking price, while Liverpool maintain Jones’ value exceeds the offers received so far.
