Inter are prioritizing the signing of Udinese defender Oumar Solet, with the club envisioning a long-term agreement potentially extending to 2031, according to reports in Italy. The 26-year-old Frenchman has impressed over the past year and a half as a regular starter for Udinese, and Inter view him as a key target to bolster their defense following the expected departures of Francesco Acerbi and potentially Milan Škriniar.
Solet’s profile aligns with Inter’s long-term strategy, supported by owners Oaktree, focusing on acquiring players with future potential. He is considered versatile, capable of playing both as a central defender and a wing-back due to his attacking inclinations. Statistically, Solet ranks third in the Serie A for successful dribbles among defenders, despite not being a natural full-back, and fourth for total shots taken, demonstrating his willingness to contribute in attacking phases.
Alongside the pursuit of Solet, Inter have also received offers for other players, most notably Manchester United’s Harry Maguire. The 33-year-old English centre-back was proposed to Inter officials, though he is not currently a primary target. Maguire recently extended his contract with United to 2027 in April of this year, despite a season where he finished with two goals and two assists in 25 appearances across all competitions. He missed a portion of the season due to a thigh injury.
Maguire arrived at United in 2019 for a fee of €87 million from Leicester City, becoming the most expensive defender in football history at the time, a record since surpassed by Josko Gvardiol. However, his time at Old Trafford has been marked by criticism, including a petition to remove him as captain in 2022 following a 4-0 defeat at Anfield, and even a bomb threat sent to his home. Despite making 237 appearances for the club, his performances have frequently been scrutinized. Inter are monitoring the situation but remain focused on securing Solet as their priority defensive reinforcement. The addition of Solet would provide competition and depth in the center of defense, as Inter aim to defend their Serie A title and Coppa Italia crown.
