Inter Milan are increasingly interested in Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah, and are reportedly moving away from a deal for Udinese’s Oumar Solet, according to reports in Italy. The Nerazzurri are seeking to bolster their defensive options ahead of the upcoming season and have identified two central defenders as priorities.
Udinese are holding firm on a €30 million valuation for Solet, a fee Inter are proving reluctant to meet. This has prompted the Milanese club to turn their attention to Chalobah, who is also a target for Serie B side Como. Como have already submitted a €25 million offer for the Chelsea player, which was rejected by the Blues.
Inter’s sporting director, Piero Ausilio, recently confirmed the club’s intention to sign two defenders and a right-sided player. While Ausilio did not specifically mention Chalobah by name, the Chelsea man is now considered a leading candidate. Chalobah’s profile is viewed as offering more experience and a lower risk than Solet, who is still recovering from a long-term injury.
There are also tactical considerations at play. While Solet’s adventurous style of play is appreciated, Inter’s coaching staff are concerned it could prove overly risky. Chalobah, at 24, offers a more established presence. The player’s brother, Nathaniel Chalobah, previously played for Napoli in the 2015-2016 season, potentially offering Trevoh insight into Italian football. The potential arrival of Chalobah alongside other targets, including Khalaili, suggests Inter are making significant progress in reshaping their squad for the new campaign. Securing defensive reinforcements will be crucial as Inter look to defend their Serie A title.
