Inter are pursuing Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel as a potential replacement for Yann Sommer, who will depart the club on a free transfer, according to reports in Italy. The 1994-born shot-stopper has reportedly put other potential destinations on hold due to the strength of Inter’s interest.
Provedel has been a key figure for Lazio since joining from Spezia in 2022, playing a vital role in their second-place finish in Serie A during the 2022-23 season, where he recorded 18 clean sheets. Contract talks with Lazio have stalled, with his current deal set to expire in 2027, leading to speculation about a possible departure. Lazio could seek a transfer fee of between €4-5 million to avoid losing him for free next year.
Prior to his breakthrough at Spezia, Provedel spent several years developing his career in lower leagues, including stints in Lega Pro with Pisa and in Serie B with Perugia, Modena, Empoli, and Juve Stabia. His late emergence has now attracted the attention of one of Italy’s top clubs, offering him the opportunity to compete for Serie A titles and play in the Champions League.
Inter have reportedly offered Provedel a contract until 2028, with an option for a further year. While Bologna, managed by Giovanni Sartori – who previously worked with Provedel at Chievo – and Gennaro Gattuso have also expressed interest, Provedel appears set on a move to the Nerazzurri. He would likely compete with Josep Martinez for the starting position, but is also seen as a valuable squad member and experienced presence in the dressing room. The transfer would provide Inter with an experienced and reliable goalkeeper as they look to continue their success under Simone Inzaghi.
