Inter Milan have confirmed the departures of Yann Sommer, Francesco Acerbi, Stefan de Vrij, and Matteo Darmian as their contracts expire on June 30th. The club released individual farewell messages to each player, acknowledging their contributions during their time at the San Siro. No contract renewals were offered to any of the quartet, with Darmian already securing a move to Panathinaikos, while the futures of the remaining three remain to be determined.
Goalkeeper Sommer arrived at Inter last summer following the departure of Andre Onana to Manchester United. He quickly established himself as the number one choice, playing a crucial role in Inter’s Serie A title-winning campaign with consistent performances. The 35-year-old Swiss international brought experience and reliability to the team, proving to be a key signing for Simone Inzaghi.
Acerbi joined Inter on an initial loan deal from Lazio in August 2023, which was then made permanent. The 36-year-old defender became a regular fixture in the Inter backline, contributing to their defensive solidity. His experience and aerial ability were particularly valuable throughout the season.
De Vrij has been a mainstay in the Inter defense since joining from Lazio in 2018. The 32-year-old Netherlands international has been a key figure in multiple Serie A title wins and Champions League runs for the Nerazzurri. While his recent form has been impacted by injuries, he leaves as a highly respected figure at the club.
Darmian, a versatile defender, has been with Inter since 2020, initially joining on loan from Parma. The 34-year-old Italian international proved to be a reliable squad member, capable of playing in multiple positions across the defense. His departure to Panathinaikos marks the end of a productive spell in Milan.
The departures create opportunities for Inter to reshape their squad during the transfer window, potentially bringing in younger players to bolster their defensive options. The club will be looking to maintain their competitive edge both domestically and in Europe following a successful season.
