Andoni Iraola has begun his tenure as Liverpool manager with a potential transfer dispute, as Alisson Becker seeks to complete a move to Juventus. The Brazil international goalkeeper has already agreed personal terms with the Serie A club, but Liverpool are currently resisting the transfer.
According to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport, Alisson has had a contract agreement with Juventus in place for months, worth approximately €15 million over three years. The 33-year-old is reportedly set to reiterate his desire to leave Anfield to the club’s management in a final attempt to secure the transfer. However, Liverpool currently have “no intention” of allowing Alisson to depart this summer.
The situation is complicated by a series of recent departures from Liverpool, with Ibrahima Konate the latest senior player to announce his exit as a free agent. He joins Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah in leaving the club this summer, creating a sense of instability within the squad. Iraola’s arrival is not expected to alter the club’s stance on Alisson, with the new manager unlikely to have significant input on transfer policy.
Juventus are now exploring alternative goalkeeping options, also focusing on the Premier League. Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez is a key target, valued at around €20 million with a wage demand of €6 million per year. Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario is also under consideration, with a similar €20 million price tag and a slightly lower wage expectation of between €3-4 million. Vicario previously had an agreement with Inter Milan before the deal fell through, and is known to be keen on a return to Serie A. While Alisson has not been completely ruled out by Juventus, Liverpool appear resolute in their decision to retain their goalkeeper.
Alisson joined Liverpool in 2018 from Roma and quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s top goalkeepers, winning the Premier League and Champions League with the club. His potential departure would leave a significant void in the Liverpool squad, particularly given the other recent departures.
