Nicolas Jackson is prepared to remain at Chelsea and compete for a starting role under new head coach Xabi Alonso, despite reported interest from Newcastle United, according to sources at TEAMtalk. The Senegal international spent last season on loan at Bayern Munich, where he scored 11 goals in all competitions while primarily serving as a backup to Harry Kane.
Bayern were reportedly satisfied with Jackson’s contribution during his loan spell, but their decision not to pursue a permanent deal stemmed from Chelsea’s valuation of €65million (£56.2m / $75.7m) rather than any concerns about the player’s performances. The Bundesliga club have not entirely ruled out a future move should Chelsea lower their asking price.
Jackson’s priority is to secure regular first-team football, a factor that initially led to expectations of a summer departure from Stamford Bridge. Chelsea’s recruitment plans had previously indicated a willingness to let the former Villarreal forward move on, particularly with Alonso taking a more active role in squad restructuring. However, the situation has become more nuanced with Alonso’s increased involvement in player selection.
Newcastle have expressed genuine interest in Jackson, appreciating his pace, movement, and versatility across the front line. The Magpies are in the market for attacking reinforcements, but face a potentially significant fee to secure the 24-year-old. Jackson, however, is keen to demonstrate his value to Alonso and is open to staying at Chelsea if given a clear pathway to first-team opportunities. Those close to the player believe he is determined to succeed in West London.
Chelsea are currently evaluating their attacking options before making a final decision on Jackson’s future. Newcastle remain interested, and Bayern Munich are monitoring the situation, but Jackson’s willingness to fight for his place at Chelsea could ultimately determine his future. If Alonso believes Jackson can contribute, the player is prepared to stay and challenge for a spot in the starting eleven.
