Jonas Wind has completed a move to Portuguese Primeira Liga side SC Braga after his contract with VfL Wolfsburg expired, the club confirmed on Tuesday. The Danish striker has signed a contract with Braga that will run until the summer of 2029, which includes a release clause of €30 million.
Wind arrived at Wolfsburg in January 2022 from FC Copenhagen and quickly became a key player, despite the club’s struggles. During his time in the Bundesliga, the forward made 124 appearances across all competitions, scoring 35 goals and providing 13 assists. Wolfsburg were ultimately relegated from the Bundesliga at the end of the 2023-24 season, adding to the sense of change for the player.
Braga finished third in the Portuguese Primeira Liga last season, securing a place in the Champions League qualifying rounds. The club are known for developing young talent and providing a platform for players to showcase their abilities on the European stage. Wind’s arrival will bolster their attacking options as they prepare for a challenging season both domestically and in Europe.
The move represents a fresh start for Wind after a disappointing season with Wolfsburg, offering him the opportunity to play Champions League football and continue his development in a different league. For Braga, securing a player of Wind’s quality on a free transfer is a significant coup, strengthening their squad without a substantial financial outlay. This transfer could provide Wind with the opportunity to re-establish himself as one of Europe’s rising striking talents.
With his contract expired, Wolfsburg will not receive a transfer fee for Wind, but will lose a proven goalscorer. Braga will be hoping Wind can replicate his goalscoring form from his time in Germany and become a key figure in their attack.
