Juventus have identified Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan as a potential reinforcement ahead of the 2024-25 Serie A season, according to reports in Italy. The club began preliminary discussions with representatives of the French international last autumn, and the possibility of a transfer has resurfaced following recent developments at both clubs.
Juventus are actively seeking a new goalkeeper following the confirmation that Michele Di Gregorio will not be the first-choice option for the 2025-26 campaign. Chief executive Damien Comolli and his team have pledged to secure signings across the squad for new manager Luciano Spalletti, with the goalkeeping position a priority. Initial hopes of signing Alisson from Liverpool have been complicated by the English club’s reluctance to sell, prompting Juventus to broaden their search.
The renewed interest in Maignan comes amid a period of change at Milan. The departure of manager Massimiliano Allegri, who played a role in Maignan’s contract extension with the Rossoneri, and a broader restructuring at the club have created a degree of uncertainty. Maignan signed a long-term contract with Milan in 2023, committing to the club until 2031 with a reported salary of €5 million plus bonuses.
While Guglielmo Vicario of Tottenham currently leads the list of potential targets for Juventus, Maignan remains a strong contender. Vicario, 29, is reportedly keen on a return to Serie A, and Tottenham are open to allowing him to leave for the right price. Emiliano Martínez, the Aston Villa and Argentina goalkeeper, is also under consideration, as is Alisson, though his situation at Liverpool remains unclear. The potential arrival of a new manager at Anfield could alter Alisson’s future with the club.
Juventus’ pursuit of Maignan represents a ‘return of flame’ for the club, having previously considered him as a potential signing before his contract renewal with Milan. The coming weeks will determine whether the interest progresses into a concrete offer, dependent on both Maignan’s ambitions and the direction of the new ownership at Milan.
