Juventus are keen to move on Teun Koopmeiners after the midfielder’s underwhelming performance for the Netherlands at the World Cup, according to reports in Italy. The club’s new CEO and General Manager, Giovanni Carnevali, is prioritizing player sales to address the financial impact of missing out on Champions League qualification.
Koopmeiners’ agent recently visited Juventus’ training facility, the Continassa, where it was made clear the player is available for transfer. While a change in club leadership could theoretically alter transfer strategies, sources suggest a departure for the Dutchman remains likely. The player has struggled to consistently impact the team over the past two seasons, despite some bright moments, including a brace against Galatasaray.
Spalletti had attempted to reintegrate Koopmeiners, even experimenting with him in a defensive role, but the midfielder ultimately delivered a string of underwhelming performances. Juventus had hoped the World Cup would provide a platform to showcase his value, but his appearance against Japan did little to boost his prospects. Coming on as a substitute in the 70th minute, Koopmeiners recorded just four touches, one pass, and two unsuccessful shots in 25 minutes of play, drawing criticism from Dutch supporters online.
Koopmeiners’ current contract with Juventus runs until June 2026, with a book value of just over €30 million. A permanent transfer appears difficult, making a loan deal with an option to buy the most probable outcome. The club are also considering options for Jonathan David, who has also underperformed since arriving in Turin, while Weston McKennie continues to impress for both club and country. The sales would allow Spalletti to rebuild the squad with funds generated from player departures.
