AC Milan have appointed Ruben Amorim as their new head coach on a contract that runs until 2029, the club announced on Sunday. Amorim joins the Rossoneri following a brief and unsuccessful spell at Manchester United, and will be tasked with revitalising the team after a disappointing end to the previous season which led to the departure of Max Allegri.
According to the official club statement, Amorim began his managerial career in 2018, transitioning from a playing career that saw him feature for Belenenses, Benfica, and the Portuguese national team. He gained prominence during his time at Sporting CP, where he secured two Portuguese league titles, two League Cups, and a Supercup, establishing a reputation for innovative tactics and player development.
Gerry Cardinale, Managing Partner of RedBird Capital Partners, expressed the club’s long-held interest in Amorim, stating that his playing style aligns with Milan’s ambitions. Cardinale highlighted Amorim’s modern, offensive approach and ability to nurture young talent as key factors in the decision. He described the new manager as one of the most prepared and innovative coaches in European football.
Amorim himself conveyed his enthusiasm for the role, acknowledging the historical significance and global appeal of AC Milan. He stated that managing the club has always been a career ambition and expressed his commitment to embracing the challenge with pride and passion. He emphasized his eagerness to begin working with the team and experiencing the club’s fervent fanbase.
The appointment signals a clear intent from Milan to overhaul their approach after a period of instability. Amorim’s focus on attacking football and developing young players suggests a shift in strategy, potentially setting the stage for a significant rebuild in the transfer market. His arrival is expected to inject fresh impetus into the squad and restore a clear tactical identity.
