Juventus are reportedly considering a move for Manchester City defender Nathan Akè during the summer transfer window, according to reports in Italy. The 32-year-old Dutch international has given his representatives the green light to explore options with top European clubs.
Akè’s potential departure from the Etihad Stadium comes after six seasons with Manchester City, where he has become increasingly peripheral to Pep Guardiola’s plans. With his current contract at City set to expire in 2027, the club are seemingly open to offers, potentially seeking around €10 million to avoid losing him for free next summer. The player himself is seeking a new challenge in a competitive league, with Champions League football a key requirement.
Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti is said to be a fan of Akè’s versatility. The Dutchman is capable of playing as a central defender in a four-man line, as a wing-back, and even as a full-back, making him a valuable asset in Spalletti’s tactical system. This flexibility aligns with the manager’s vision of a “liquid” style of play.
However, Juventus are also evaluating other defensive options, including John Stones, also of Manchester City, though concerns exist regarding his recent injury record. Kim Min-jae of Bayern Munich remains a primary target for Spalletti, but his high wage demands present a significant obstacle. The club are also monitoring young talents Samson Baidoo of Lens and Joel Ordonez of Bruges. The future of current Juventus defender Bremer is also under consideration, with a release clause of €58.7 million in his contract. Juventus will likely need to qualify for the Champions League to attract players of Akè’s calibre, and will first assess which members of their current squad to retain or sell to raise funds for potential acquisitions.
