Juventus are reportedly interested in signing Joao Palhinha from Bayern Munich, according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola. The 31-year-old midfielder spent last season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur, where he impressed despite a challenging campaign for the club that narrowly avoided relegation.
Palhinha’s performances in London were positive, but Tottenham opted not to trigger the option to buy him, following a significant investment in Sandro Tonali. This has led to the player returning to Bayern Munich, though his future in Bavaria is uncertain as the club explores alternative options. The Portuguese international has two years remaining on his contract with the German champions.
Palhinha’s availability has also attracted attention from Serie A rivals Milan, adding competition for his signature. Juventus are seeking to bolster their midfield with an experienced international player under new manager Luciano Spalletti, and Palhinha fits that profile. His profile as a physical, commanding midfielder – standing at 1.90m – has drawn comparisons to Nemanja Matic, though the Serbian is nearing the end of his career at 38.
The potential deal could take the form of an expensive loan, similar to the arrangement that brought Palhinha to Tottenham last summer. Juventus are also considering other midfield options, including Franck Kessie and Leon Goretzka, but are prioritizing sales to free up funds and space in the squad. Khephren Thuram is a player the club could look to sell, with Paris Saint-Germain mentioned as a potential destination. Securing Palhinha would provide Spalletti with an immediately available and reliable player as Juventus aim to return to the top of Italian football.
