Juventus are considering a move for Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar as they seek to bolster their options between the posts, according to reports in Italy. Roma, meanwhile, are under pressure to generate significant transfer revenue – approximately €50 million – before the end of June to comply with financial regulations.
The need to raise funds quickly has led Roma to consider selling players previously deemed untouchable by manager Gian Piero Gasperini, including Svilar, alongside players like Kouadio Koné, Fabrizio Wesley, Ebrima Ndicka, and Luca Pisilli. While Gasperini would prefer to retain these players, the club’s financial situation necessitates difficult decisions.
Svilar, 24, has become a key figure for Roma since joining the club on a free transfer. However, the opportunity to secure a substantial fee for the Belgian international is proving tempting for the Giallorossi, who could reportedly accept an offer in the region of €35-40 million. This would represent a significant profit for Roma, given they acquired Svilar without a transfer fee.
Juventus are in the market for a new goalkeeper, with the need for a long-term solution becoming increasingly apparent. The club is also monitoring the availability of Argentina’s Emiliano Martínez, whose representatives are the same as Svilar’s, but a deal for Martínez hinges on Aston Villa lowering their asking price. Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario is another potential target, with the London club open to selling after signing a new goalkeeping duo.
Negotiations between Juventus and Roma are currently underway through intermediaries, with both clubs seeking a mutually agreeable formula. Juventus officials are scheduled for a summit to discuss transfer strategies and budgets, while Roma’s new sporting director, Tony D’Amico, is focused on generating necessary funds. The situation remains fluid, but a move for Svilar could provide both clubs with a positive outcome in a challenging financial climate.
