Juventus have terminated the contract of Chief Executive Officer Fabio Comolli after just one year in the role, the club confirmed. The decision follows a period of underperformance both on and off the pitch, with the Bianconeri’s recent transfer business widely criticised.
Comolli arrived at Juventus with a reputation for international experience and a modern approach to football management, tasked with leading the club’s reconstruction. However, difficulties in establishing a unified vision within the club and translating expectations into sporting success ultimately led to his departure. Ownership reportedly felt a change in governance was necessary to steer the club forward.
The move signals a broader restructuring within the Juventus hierarchy, extending beyond a simple change of leadership. The club is aiming to clarify its decision-making processes and strengthen the connection between the sporting and management sides of the organisation. Finding stability after a period of frequent changes is a key objective for the ownership.
According to Tuttosport, Giovanni Carnevali, the current CEO of Sassuolo, is the leading candidate to replace Comolli as Juventus’ new administrator delegate. Matteo Tognozzi is also reportedly being considered for a prominent role in the new structure, potentially leveraging his strong relationship with manager Luciano Spalletti. Spalletti’s position was reportedly strengthened by Comolli’s departure, having viewed the former CEO as a failure during his single year at the club.
The Juventus ownership now face the challenge of building a long-term, stable leadership capable of delivering consistent results and ensuring the club can refocus on its ambitions on the pitch.
