Juventus are intensifying their pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, according to reports from Italy. The move comes as the Turin club seeks a replacement for their current options, having previously focused on Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez and Benfica’s Odysseas Vlachodimos, the latter deal collapsing due to the wishes of Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini and Roma’s ownership.
Vicario, who has a contract with Tottenham until 2028, is expected to depart the London club and has already indicated his willingness to join Juventus. The initial stumbling block in negotiations was Tottenham’s asking price of €20 million, but a recent shift towards a loan deal with an option to buy has opened up a potential pathway for the transfer. This development follows Vicario missing out on a move to Inter, where the club opted to promote their existing goalkeeper, Martinez.
Roberto De Zerbi, Tottenham’s manager, has reportedly given Vicario his blessing to leave, signaling the club’s willingness to explore alternative options in goal. The 29-year-old Vicario reportedly considers his time in England to be over and his representatives have been actively seeking a new club since last spring, with a desired salary of €4 million per year.
Juventus remain interested in Martinez, but his wages and Aston Villa’s asking price—reported to be over €10 million—are proving to be obstacles. The club are also considering other targets, including Parma’s Simone Suzuki, but his estimated €30 million valuation and interest from Premier League clubs make a deal difficult. Juventus are also progressing in talks for Muharemovic and Kolo Muani, with further contact planned for the latter.
The potential arrival of Vicario would represent a cost-effective solution for Juventus, aligning with their strategy of avoiding significant investment in players who are not considered long-term prospects. The move would provide manager Luciano Spalletti with a new option in goal as he begins preparations for the upcoming season.
