Juventus’s interest in signing Brahim Diaz is expected to be a protracted affair, according to reports from Italy. The transfer is complicated by several factors, including the upcoming presidential election at Real Madrid, the potential return of Nico Paz to the Spanish club, and Diaz’s current participation in the World Cup with Morocco.
Juventus have reportedly been in discussions with both Diaz and his current club, Milan, for some time, but are hesitant to publicly confirm any progress following recent failed pursuits of Alisson Becker and Andrew Robertson. The situation at Real Madrid is a primary obstacle, as the club is currently without a president ahead of elections on June 7th. Incumbent Florentino Perez is running for re-election against Enrique Riquelme, a businessman who has launched a campaign criticizing Perez’s leadership.
The outcome of the election could significantly impact Real Madrid’s transfer strategy. Should Riquelme win, the appointment of José Mourinho as manager could be jeopardized. Mourinho has already agreed to a deal with Benfica, but his arrival at Real Madrid is contingent on Perez remaining in power. Mourinho has reportedly identified Nico Paz, currently on loan at Como, as a priority signing, potentially hindering a move for Diaz. Real Madrid hold a buyback clause for Paz.
Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti is keen to add a player of Diaz’s quality to his squad, specifically to address a perceived lack of options in the attacking midfield position. Diaz is aware that he would be a key player under Spalletti, and a move to Turin would allow him to continue playing in Serie A, a league he is familiar with from his time at Milan. Despite Juventus’s lack of Champions League qualification, the move does not appear to be a deterrent for the player. Diaz’s contract with Real Madrid runs until 2027, and previous discussions had involved a potential loan extension to Juventus. The player is currently focused on the World Cup, while Juventus continue to monitor the situation.
