AC Milan are progressing with discussions regarding their future managerial structure, with Ralf Rangnick, Oliver Glasner, and Mauricio Pochettino all under consideration. The club intends to finalize appointments for both a technical director and a head coach within the coming days, potentially within the next 48-72 hours, according to reports in the Italian media.
Oliver Glasner, the current free agent, met with club officials today, while Milan are awaiting a definitive response from Rangnick regarding the technical director role, expected within the next 24 hours. A summit with Matthias Jaissle, currently managing Al Ahli, is scheduled before the weekend, with Pochettino emerging as a potential alternative should negotiations with Rangnick falter.
Glasner, previously managing Crystal Palace, is reportedly attracted to the project at Milan and has already begun analyzing the current squad with his staff. While this first meeting may not be decisive, the club’s simultaneous talks with Jaissle suggest Glasner is one of several options being seriously evaluated. The Austrian coach is seeking an opportunity to win silverware, having experienced success in Germany and England, and views a move to Serie A as a significant step in his career.
Rangnick’s potential arrival hinges on several conditions, including the authority to appoint the head coach, implement a specific footballing philosophy across all levels of the club, and bring in a substantial number of his own staff. He is also seeking a long-term project, potentially a three-year contract, and assurances that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not interfere with his decision-making. Reports suggest a disagreement exists regarding Ibrahimovic’s role, with Rangnick wanting full autonomy and the club maintaining Ibrahimovic’s position as a consultant to owner Gerry Cardinale.
Should Rangnick decline the offer, Pochettino, currently managing the United States national team, has emerged as a strong candidate. Initial contact has been made with Pochettino’s representatives, although his commitments with the national team ahead of the World Cup limit his ability to fully engage in negotiations at this time. Al Ahli are reluctant to release Jaissle, who was recommended by Rangnick, but a compensation fee of around €6-7 million could facilitate a move. Ramon Planes, currently a consultant at Al Ittihad, is also being considered as a potential sporting director.
The situation remains fluid, with Milan aiming to resolve these key positions swiftly to shape the club’s future direction.
