Juventus have renewed their interest in Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, according to reports from Tuttosport. The club initially explored a move for the Argentinian international in March, but prioritised a potential deal for Liverpool’s Alisson Becker. With Alisson’s future at Anfield currently uncertain, Juventus are again considering Martínez as a viable option.
Martínez has reportedly expressed his desire to leave Aston Villa since after the 2022 World Cup, a decision initially resisted by manager Unai Emery who promised to consider a transfer the following year. Following Villa’s successful season, which culminated in Europa League qualification and a fourth-place Premier League finish, the 31-year-old is now actively pushing for a move. Juventus and a return to Italian football are said to appeal to the goalkeeper.
Aston Villa are believed to value Martínez around €20 million, and the player has three years remaining on a contract that sees him earn €6 million per season. This represents a potentially greater financial commitment for Juventus than they had anticipated for Alisson, but the club believes Martínez could provide long-term stability in goal for the next three to four years. Contacts with Martínez’s agent, Gustavo Goni, have been re-established in the last week.
Juventus are still awaiting developments regarding Alisson, with recent changes at Liverpool – including the departure of manager Arne Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes – creating uncertainty. The club are taking time to assess the situation at Anfield before making a firm decision. Alternatives to both Martínez and Alisson are also being considered, including former Roma goalkeeper David de Gea and Alexander Nubel, currently on loan at Stuttgart from Bayern Munich. The future of current Juventus goalkeepers Mattia Perin and Marco Di Gregorio is also dependent on the outcome of the transfer window.
