Juventus target Alisson, Silva, and Premier League stars in ambitious rebuild
Juventus are planning an ambitious summer transfer window aimed at returning the club to the pinnacle of European football, with Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker and Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva reportedly at the top of their wishlist. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Serie A giants are preparing a major squad overhaul that also includes Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori and Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, despite the significant hurdles involved in securing such high-profile talent.
The Turin club, currently fourth in Serie A and on course for Champions League qualification, is determined to move beyond simply making up the numbers in Europe's premier competition. The recruitment drive, as outlined by the Italian publication, focuses on experienced, elite-level players who can provide immediate impact. Bernardo Silva is available on a free transfer this summer, with his contract at Manchester City expiring and no extension currently planned, making him a financially viable target.
In contrast, a fee would be required for Alisson Becker, though Gazzetta dello Sport suggests that, given the Brazilian goalkeeper is now 33 and has faced recent injury concerns, it would not necessarily command a colossal sum. However, Juventus are expected to face resistance from Liverpool, who have already signed Giorgi Mamardashvili as a long-term successor but are not yet ready to part ways with their established number one. Alisson remains a key figure at Anfield despite his advancing age.
The pursuit of other Premier League-based Italians forms another pillar of the strategy. Juventus are reportedly banking on the desire of both Riccardo Calafiori and Sandro Tonali to return to their homeland. TEAMtalk reports that Arsenal have no intention of selling Calafiori, even with the arrival of Piero Hincapie, indicating a difficult negotiation lies ahead. Tonali's situation is complicated by his valuation, which is understood to be around £100 million, and significant interest from other English clubs including Arsenal and Manchester United. While Tonali is said to prefer a return to Italy if he leaves Newcastle, the financial power of Premier League suitors could dictate the outcome.
Beyond these primary targets, Juventus are also exploring reinforcements in attack and defence. The club has reportedly taken initial steps towards a move for Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski, whose contract expires this summer. Despite being 37, the Polish forward continues to perform at a high level. Other forward options under consideration include Darwin Nunez, expected to return to Europe from Saudi Arabia, and Randal Kolo Muani, who will be available from Paris Saint-Germain after his loan at Tottenham concludes. In defence, after deeming Bournemouth's free-agent Marcos Senesi's demands excessive, Juventus are looking at Bayern Munich's Kim Min-jae, who has prior experience in Serie A from his title-winning spell with Napoli.
This sweeping transfer strategy underscores Juventus's intent to re-establish themselves as a dominant force both domestically and continentally. The potential arrivals of seasoned winners like Alisson and Silva would bring vital Champions League experience and a winning mentality to a squad in transition. Success in these pursuits, however, will depend on navigating complex negotiations with selling clubs and convincing top players that Turin is the right destination for the next phase of their careers.
