Juventus are in negotiations with Atlético Madrid regarding a permanent transfer for forward Nico González, according to reports emerging from Italy. The deal is currently valued at around €25 million, significantly less than the initial €32 million agreed upon as part of the loan arrangement.
González joined Atlético Madrid on loan from Juventus at the start of the season and has impressed under manager Diego Simeone, becoming a key figure in the Spanish side’s attack. Atlético are keen to retain the Argentinian international, but are hesitant to meet the original buyout clause. The club strategically managed González’s playing time to avoid triggering the automatic purchase option.
Juventus are reportedly motivated to sell González due to financial constraints and the need to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations. The club also has a number of players returning from loan spells – including Douglas Luiz, Arthur, Joao Mario, and Rugani – and needs to trim its squad. The sale would also free up significant funds to support manager Luciano Spalletti’s plans for squad reinforcement.
González’s current contract at Juventus has a book value of approximately €20 million, with his salary – including tax benefits from the 'Decreto Crescita' – costing the club around €12 million annually. A sale for around €25 million would represent a positive financial outcome for the Bianconeri. Atlético Madrid are unwilling to offer more than €30 million for the 28-year-old.
González himself has expressed his desire to remain at Atlético Madrid, stating he is “living a dream” in the Spanish capital. However, the financial realities of the situation appear to be pushing him towards a permanent move to the Spanish side. The ongoing discussions are described as “positive” and a deal could be finalized before the end of May, providing Juventus with crucial funds for the upcoming transfer window.
