Harry Kane has informed Barcelona he is not interested in a move to the Catalan club, opting instead to remain with Bayern Munich and discuss a new contract, according to reports from Christian Falk of Bild. The news comes despite Barcelona expressing interest in the England international as they search for a top-class striker.
Barcelona, fresh off winning consecutive LaLiga titles, identified Kane as a potential target following Robert Lewandowski’s departure. The Daily Mail reported on June 29th that the club had contacted Kane’s representatives, with plans to revisit the possibility after the 2026 World Cup. However, those initial overtures were reportedly rebuffed by Kane’s camp.
Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez is currently Barcelona’s primary target, with Alvarez himself reportedly keen on a move to join Hansi Flick’s side. However, Atletico’s reluctance to sell has prompted Barcelona to explore alternative options, briefly leading them to Kane.
Kane joined Bayern Munich from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023 for an initial fee of £86.4 million and has quickly established himself as a key player for the Bavarian giants. In 147 appearances across all competitions, he has scored 146 goals and provided 33 assists, winning back-to-back Bundesliga titles. The 32-year-old’s current contract with Bayern runs until the summer of 2027.
Speaking in May, Kane stated that discussions regarding a contract extension would be put on hold until after the World Cup, emphasizing a positive relationship with the club. He indicated a willingness to engage in “honest discussions” with Bayern officials at a later date. Falk’s reporting suggests Kane’s preference is to negotiate a new deal directly with Bayern, indicating his commitment to the club. This development significantly impacts Barcelona’s striker search, forcing them to focus on other targets as they look to bolster their attacking options.
