Tottenham Hotspur have firmly rejected the possibility of selling midfielder Archie Gray this summer, despite interest from Newcastle United, according to TEAMtalk. The Magpies reportedly inquired about including the 20-year-old in negotiations for Sandro Tonali, but Tottenham made it clear that Gray is not for sale.
This stance comes as Tottenham invest heavily in their midfield options under Roberto De Zerbi, with deals for Tonali and West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes nearing completion for a combined fee approaching £190 million. The arrivals will add to an already competitive midfield department featuring Conor Gallagher, Rodrigo Bentancur, Pape Matar Sarr, Lucas Bergvall, and James Maddison.
Gray enjoyed an impressive first season in North London, establishing himself as a promising young talent. He has also represented England at the Under-21 level. While several other clubs, including Aston Villa, Brighton, Sunderland, Bournemouth and his former club Leeds United, have monitored his situation, Tottenham are determined to retain him. Leeds, in particular, would be keen on a return for the player, but acknowledge a deal is currently improbable.
Crucially, Gray himself is not actively seeking a move and is committed to developing his career at Tottenham, encouraged by discussions with De Zerbi regarding his role in the squad. Club officials view him as a versatile and mature player with significant potential, integral to building a deep squad capable of competing on multiple fronts. Despite the increased competition for places, they are confident he will receive ample opportunities.
Tottenham are also considering the futures of Pape Matar Sarr and Lucas Bergvall, with both players potentially assessing their options due to the increased competition. Meanwhile, centre-back Luka Vuskovic is set to join Brighton in a big-money transfer, despite never making a senior appearance for Spurs.
