Noah Katterbach has extended his contract with Hamburger SV and will spend the 2026-27 season on loan at Eintracht Braunschweig, the Bundesliga 2 club confirmed on Tuesday afternoon.
The 25-year-old full-back initially joined HSV on loan from 1. FC Köln during the 2022-23 season before making the move permanent in January 2024. Despite the permanent transfer, Katterbach has struggled to consistently feature for the Hanseatic club, making just 27 competitive appearances and contributing one goal and three assists.
HSV sporting director Claus Costa acknowledged the player’s difficulties with injuries, stating, “Noah hasn’t had an easy time with us over the past two and a half years.” Costa also praised Katterbach’s resilience, noting his commitment to regaining fitness and even appearing for the club’s U-21 team in the Regionalliga.
The loan move to Braunschweig is intended to provide Katterbach with regular playing time, something HSV believes is crucial for the player to rediscover his form and rhythm. Costa confirmed the club were happy to accommodate Katterbach’s request for a change, prioritizing his development.
Katterbach began his professional career with 1. FC Köln, progressing through their youth ranks before establishing himself as a regular in the Bundesliga. He made over 80 appearances for Köln across all competitions before the initial loan spell to Hamburg. The move to Braunschweig represents an opportunity for him to reignite his career in the second tier of German football.
This loan benefits both clubs; HSV gains clarity on Katterbach’s long-term future while allowing him to gain valuable minutes, and Braunschweig adds a Bundesliga-proven player to their squad. The move could potentially provide Katterbach with a pathway back to regular first-team football at HSV, or attract interest from other clubs should he perform well during his loan spell.
