Yassine Kechta has officially signed for Spanish Segunda División side Leganés, the club announced on Sunday. The Moroccan midfielder joins on a free transfer, penning a four-year contract with the Pepineros. Le Havre will not receive any compensation for the departure of Kechta, who was out of contract.
Kechta departs Le Havre after three seasons with the Normandy-based club. Having progressed through the youth academy at Le Havre, the midfielder became a key figure in Didier Digard’s starting eleven in recent years. He featured in a total of 122 matches for Le Havre, including 93 appearances in Ligue 1.
The move to Leganés offers Kechta an opportunity to continue his development in Spanish football. Leganés finished the recent season alongside Valladolid in the Segunda División, demonstrating their competitiveness in the league. The club will be hoping Kechta can bolster their midfield options as they aim for promotion to La Liga.
Le Havre will now be tasked with finding a replacement for Kechta in their midfield. The club recently saw captain Arouna Sanganté depart for Sevilla at the end of his contract, further highlighting the need for reinforcement in that area of the pitch. Kechta’s departure leaves a void in the team, given his consistent performances and importance to the starting lineup. His move to Leganés provides a new challenge for the player and could be a significant step forward in his career.
