Arsenal are considering allowing goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga to leave the club this summer, according to Sky Sports. The 31-year-old joined the Gunners last year but made only one Premier League appearance, serving as backup to David Raya throughout the campaign.
Arrizabalaga arrived at the Emirates Stadium for a fee of €6 million from Chelsea, following a loan spell with Bournemouth. Manager Mikel Arteta had previously expressed admiration for the Spaniard, but Raya’s strong performances have solidified his position as the first-choice goalkeeper. Arrizabalaga has two years remaining on his current contract.
Should Arrizabalaga depart, Arsenal are reportedly monitoring Illan Meslier, who recently became a free agent after leaving Leeds United. Meslier, 26, was Leeds’ first-choice goalkeeper for three Premier League seasons after joining in 2019, but his form deteriorated, leading to his release. He is viewed as a potential replacement for Arrizabalaga in the number two role.
Arsenal are also focused on strengthening their attacking options, with Morgan Rogers identified as a top target. However, Aston Villa are seeking a fee exceeding €150 million for the player, prompting the club to explore cost-effective alternatives like Meslier. The Gunners recently had a bid rejected for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, indicating a continued pursuit of midfield reinforcements. Arsenal will assess interest in Arrizabalaga before making a firm move for Meslier, prioritizing efficient spending as they navigate the transfer window.
